“Good Morning Kalsin Bay”

This painting was inspired by the views seen across Kalsin Bay from atop Kalsin Hill on the road beteen Chiniak and Kodiak City. This view includes the neighborhood where I have lived since 1977. As a commuter I would pass this vantage point twice a day. Part of the year it was dark both going and coming. Spring brings a wide variety of hues of red and orange in the morning and more diffused peach variations in the afternoon as the line of sight is generally east. This view provides seemingly infinite inspirational vistas with abstract variations in sky colors reflected in the changing textures of the bay and mountains. I surely will describe other interpretations from this viewpoint in future works.
